Technology Video: Siri vs. Google Search

Siri vs. Google Search

Siri vs. Google Search (Jelly Bean)

Siri is how Apple persuades consumers to buy the iPhone 4S, and in iOS 6, the voice assistant promises to get a whole lot better. But before the new and improved Siri arrives, Google is unleashing an upgrade to its search that, well, blows Apple's tech right out of the water. Built from the ground up in the new Android Jelly Bean update, the new search engine accepts and answers questions with aplomb. When we first booted it up and gave it a go, it seriously blew us away with how quick it returned results, and the technology's voice is much more fluid than Siri's robotic pipes. We pitted the two against each other to see just how great Google's enhanced search is, and why Apple's new Siri may already be behind before she even arrives.

ViSa Blogging: Daily Blogging: Technology: Did Google Buy Motorola For $12.5 billion?

Motorola, Inc. was an American multinational telecommunications company based in Schaumburg, Illinois, which was eventually divided into two independent public companies, Motorola Mobility and Motorola Solutions on January 4, 2011, after losing $4.3 billion from 2007 to 2009. Motorola Solutions is generally considered to be the direct successor to Motorola, Inc., as the reorganization was structured with Motorola Mobility being spun off.

Motorola designed and sold wireless network infrastructure equipment such as cellular transmission base stations and signal amplifiers. Motorola's home and broadcast network products included set-top boxes, digital video recorders, and network equipment used to enable video broadcasting, computer telephony, and high-definition television. Its business and government customers consisted mainly of wireless voice and broadband systems used to build private networks and public safety communications systems like Astro and Dimetra. These businesses (except for set-top boxes and cable modems) are now part of Motorola Solutions.

Motorola's wireless telephone handset division was a pioneer in cellular phones. Known as the Personal Communication Section (PCS) prior to 2004, it pioneered the flip phone with the StarTAC in the mid-1990s, and it enjoyed a resurgence with the RAZR in the mid-2000s before losing significant market share. Lately it has focused on smartphones using Google's open-source Android mobile operating system. The first phone to use the newest version of Google's open source OS, Android 2.0, was released on November 2, 2009 as the Motorola Droid (the GSM version launched a month later, in Europe, as the Motorola Milestone). The handset division, (along with cable set-top boxes and cable modems) has since then been spun off into the independent Motorola Mobility.

Google Inc. is an American multinational public corporation invested in Internet search, cloud computing, advertising technologies, and search engines. Google hosts and develops a number of Internet-based services and products, and generates profit primarily from advertising through its AdWords program. The company was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, often dubbed the "Google Guys", while the two were attending Stanford University as PhD candidates. It was first incorporated as a privately held company on September 4, 1998, and its initial public offering followed on August 19, 2004. At that time Larry Page, Sergey Brin, and Eric Schmidt agreed to work together at Google for twenty years, until the year 2024. The company's mission statement from the outset was "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful", and the company's unofficial slogan – coined by Google engineer Amit Patel and supported by Paul Buchheit – is "Don't be evil". In 2006, the company moved to its current headquarters in Mountain View, California.

It has been estimated that Google runs over one million servers in data centers around the world, and processes over one billion search requests and about twenty-four petabytes of user-generated data every day. Google's rapid growth since its incorporation has triggered a chain of products, acquisitions, and partnerships beyond the company's core web search engine. The company offers online productivity software, such as its Gmail email service, and social networking tools, including Orkut and, more recently, Google Buzz and Google+. Google's products extend to the desktop as well, with applications such as the web browser Google Chrome, the Picasa photo organization and editing software, and the Google Talk instant messaging application. Notably, Google leads the development of the Android mobile operating system, used on a number of phones such as the Motorola Droid and the Samsung Galaxy smartphone series', as well as the new Google Chrome OS, best known as the main operating system on the Cr-48 and also, since 15 June 2011, on commercial Chromebooks such as the Samsung Series 5 and Acer AC700. Alexa lists the main U.S.-focused google.com site as the Internet's most visited website, and numerous international Google sites (google.co.in(14) and most visited site in India, google.co.uk etc.) are in the top hundred, as are several other Google-owned sites such as YouTube (Alexa:3), Blogger (Alexa:6), and Orkut. Google also ranks number two in the BrandZ brand equity database. The dominant market position of Google's services has led to criticism of the company over issues including privacy, copyright, and censorship.

On August 15, 2011, Google announced that it would acquire Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion subject to approval from regulators in the United States and Europe. In a post on Google's blog, Google Chief Executive and co-founder Larry Page revealed that Google's acquisition of Motorola Mobility is a strategic move to strengthen Google's patent portfolio. The company's Android operating system has come under fire in an industry-wide patent battle, as Apple and Microsoft have taken to court Android device makers such as HTC, Samsung and Motorola. This purchase was made in part to help Google gain Motorola's considerable patent portfolio on mobile phones and wireless technologies to help protect it in its ongoing patent disputes with other companies, mainly Apple and Microsoft and to allow it to continue to freely offer Android.

1$ A Year Now $1.25 Million A Year Earning

With the title of this post of my personal daily interest news you may wonder with the figure amount of the big money earning. Do you know who can earn this large amount of money???

Yeah, with the amount of earning, I want to refer to Eric Schmidt (Eric Emerson Schmidt). According to Wikipedia, Eric Emerson Schmidt, born April 27, 1955(1955-04-27), is an engineer, a former member of the board of directors of Apple Inc. , and current executive chairman of Google. From 2001-2011, he served as CEO of Google. He is a co-author of the lex lexical analyzer software for Unix. He has also sat on the boards of trustees for Carnegie Mellon University and Princeton University.

Wikipedia: Eric Schmidt

Eric E. Schmidt’s new job as executive chairman of Google came with a very great raise which he had been earning just $1 a year since 2005 and will now earn $1.25 million a year with a potential $6 million annual bonus, according to a regulatory filing Tuesday by Google.

That's really very big amount of money he can earn since the beginning of only 1$ a year. I really appreciate him!!!

Personal Daily Interest News: Google Market Capitalization is Now About $196 Billion

Google's Market Capitalization is Now About $196 Billion

This morning, I read a news from CBS News website (www.cbsnews.com) on a title posted "Google: $100 Million To Eric Schmidt". This information, Google: $100 Million To Eric Schmidt, CBS also got from AP News.

With this news, I'm very interested in about Eric Schmidt and Google's market capitalization which is now about $196 Billion.

First of all, I want to know who is Eric Schmidt?

Let me quote about introduction to Eric Schmidt and his Biography from Wikipedia:

Eric Emerson Schmidt (born April 27, 1955(1955-04-27))[3] is an engineer, Chairman/CEO of Google and a former member of the Board of Directors of Apple Inc.[4] He is a co-author of the lex lexical analyzer software for Unix. He has also sat on the boards of trustees for Carnegie Mellon University[5] and Princeton University.

Biography

Dr. Eric Schmidt was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Blacksburg, Virginia. After graduating from Yorktown High School,[7] Eric Schmidt attended Princeton University where he earned a BSEE in 1976.[8] At the University of California, Berkeley, he earned an MS in 1979 for designing and implementing a network linking the campus computer center, the CS and the EECS departments,[9][10] and a PhD in 1982 in EECS with a dissertation about the problems of managing distributed software development and tools for solving these problems.[11] He was joint author of lex (a lexical analyzer and an important tool for compiler construction). He taught at Stanford Business School as a part time professor.[12]

Dr. Schmidt lives in Atherton, California, with his wife Wendy.[13]

He is also on the list of ARTnews 200 top art collectors.

And let me quote the news which say about Google's market capitalization is now about $196 billion:

Schmidt has led Google since 2001, three years before the company went public in August 2004. Since then, Google's shares have grown more than sixfold, at one point surpassing $700. Google's market capitalization is now about $196 billion. Though it faces a formidable crop of young new rivals, notably Facebook, Google so far has managed to stay on top of the online advertising food chain, relying mainly on its search prowess but flexing its muscles in other areas too.

I Love Google Instant

Google is the world biggest search engine provider on the Internet and by now Google has a very wonderful feature for Googlers to search in an instant way called Google Instant.

How Instant? Well, it is more faster to search. All relevant keywords are shown up quickly. For example I just type the keyword "I Love G...". The Google shows me "I Love Google..". Yeah! I really Love Google!

Let try by your self!!!

How Google Instant is???

More information, you can read the quoted text below or visit http://www.google.com/instant/ here...

Google Instant:

Google Instant is a new search enhancement that shows results as you type. We are pushing the limits of our technology and infrastructure to help you get better search results, faster. Our key technical insight was that people type slowly, but read quickly, typically taking 300 milliseconds between keystrokes, but only 30 milliseconds (a tenth of the time!) to glance at another part of the page. This means that you can scan a results page while you type.

The most obvious change is that you get to the right content much faster than before because you don’t have to finish typing your full search term, or even press “search.” Another shift is that seeing results as you type helps you formulate a better search term by providing instant feedback. You can now adapt your search on the fly until the results match exactly what you want. In time, we may wonder how search ever worked in any other way.
Benefits

Faster Searches: By predicting your search and showing results before you finish typing, Google Instant can save 2-5 seconds per search.

Smarter Predictions: Even when you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, predictions help guide your search. The top prediction is shown in grey text directly in the search box, so you can stop typing as soon as you see what you need.

Instant Results: Start typing and results appear right before your eyes. Until now, you had to type a full search term, hit return, and hope for the right results. Now results appear instantly as you type, helping you see where you’re headed, every step of the way.

..Even more about Google Instant, Please watch the video introduction about Google Instant:

Google TV- Multimillion-Channel TV

Google TV is a new experience made for television that combines the TV you know and love with the freedom and power of the Internet.

Google TV- Image from Flickr

(CNN) -- Saying it will "change the future of television," Google on Thursday rolled out Google TV -- the internet giant's venture into web-TV integration.

The application, run by Google's Android operating system, lets users search for content from their television, DVR and the web.

"Here we are folks -- the multimillion-channel TV," said Google project director Rishi Chandra during a two-hour keynote on Google's Android operating system at the company's annual I/O conference in San Francisco, California.

Even as sites like Google-owned YouTube have emerged as viable entertainment options, the move is a nod to a basic truth of leisure time: The estimated 4 billion television users worldwide is still a much bigger customer base than those using the internet.

"There's still not a better medium to reach a wider and broader audience than television," Chandra said...
